The Beautiful Game and the Beautiful People It Brings Together

Atualizado: 26 de mai.

There’s something magical about the soccer world—how the game has this unique ability to connect people from all walks of life. Sometimes, these connections last a lifetime. Other times, they show up for just a moment, but leave an unforgettable mark. Living in Chicago, I’ve seen this magic play out time and time again. But this year, life gave me a very special gift.

One of the stars of the Brazilian Women’s National Team, Ludmila, signed with the Chicago Stars—and with that, a longtime friendship found a new home here in the Windy City. Lud and I have shared many moments over the years, and now we get to share the same city, the same passion, and the same dream—just from different angles. We exchange advice, experiences, and reflections—not only about soccer, but about life. I’ve had the privilege of living in the U.S. for almost 20 years, and being able to offer her a sense of community and support as she navigates this chapter has been deeply meaningful.

Last night, as I stood watching the Chicago Stars take the field, I was reminded again of how beautiful this environment is. I had the opportunity to meet Coach Emma Hayes and her assistant Denise Reddy—two of the most respected minds in the women’s game. Conversations were brief, but the energy and inspiration they brought were powerful. It’s not every day that you get to witness greatness up close, not only in players but in the people working tirelessly behind the scenes.

That’s what continues to inspire me about women’s sports—the level of excellence, dedication, and heart that exists far beyond the spotlight. There are so many capable, passionate professionals building this game brick by brick. Coaches, mentors, administrators, trainers, support staff—all united by the same purpose: to elevate the game and the people in it.

I’m incredibly proud—and I say this with humility—to be part of this movement. To be around people who share a love for the game, who believe in the next generation, and who represent our communities with pride and integrity. I don’t take these moments for granted, and I don’t take these people for granted.

Whether it's reconnecting with a dear friend like Ludmila, or crossing paths with leaders like Emma and Denise, I’m reminded that the game keeps giving. It gives us joy, purpose, and above all—connection.

And for that, I’m endlessly grateful.
