One of the greatest privileges of my career has been the opportunity to work with youth players around the world. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to supporting, guiding, and nurturing young talent with the hope that they will grow into players who not only succeed on the field but also inspire others with their character and determination. Every step in this journey has reinforced my belief that investing in youth development is one of the most powerful ways to shape the future of football.
Among the many extraordinary players I have had the chance to work with, one name stands out today: Melchie Dumornay, also known as Corventina. Between 2014 and 2017, during my time with the Haiti Women’s National Team, I was fortunate to witness her early years as a player. Even then, her potential was undeniable. Her sharp instincts, natural technical ability, and remarkable maturity set her apart from her peers. She carried not only talent but also a burning passion for the game that made her special.
Fast forward to the present, and it fills me with immense pride to see Dumornay’s name among the Ballon d’Or 2025 nominees. This recognition is not only a reflection of her hard work and dedication but also a testament to her incredible journey. Her season in 2024–2025 was nothing short of outstanding: 19 goals and 8 assists, along with performances that consistently impacted games at the highest level. Dumornay embodies what it means to be a modern footballer — combining technical skill, tactical intelligence, speed, and the ability to read the game in ways that change outcomes.
For me, seeing her rise to this level is deeply personal. It is a reminder of the importance of believing in young players, giving them the right environment to thrive, and trusting in their ability to grow. Dumornay’s story is not only about individual brilliance but also about the resilience and determination of Haitian football, and how talent can overcome barriers when given the right support.
As I continue my work with youth players across the globe, I carry with me the lessons and memories of experiences like this. Watching a player I once mentored reach such extraordinary heights is one of the most rewarding parts of my journey as a coach and talent developer.
Congratulations, Dumornay — your nomination is richly deserved, and I cannot wait to see all that you will continue to achieve. The world of football is better for having players like you who inspire the next generation to dream big.
